6.15.19 Pennsylvania Sprint Series Results
By: Frank Buhrman
Virginian Jerald Harris kept all the fighting for position behind him Saturday night, leading from start to finish to capture the 25-lap IMCA/RaceSaver interregional series feature at Hagerstown Speedway.
Harris, from Rockingham, became the first Virginia Sprint Series regular to take a checkered flag in the four RaceSaver features run at Hagerstown this year – Pennsylvania drivers had won the first three. The victor credited VSS and RaceSaver founder French Grimes with the set-up that kept his Bobby E. Harris Moving #J9 out front.
Dave Grube II (York Haven, Pa.; Spearhead Rentals/MAN Contracting/Chiropractic Athletic #3D) moved from his third starting spot into second position on lap 7 and held that spot, despite pressure from Ken Duke Jr. (Selinsgrove, Pa.; Fairfield Chevrolet/Apache Tree Service/sprintcarunlimited.com #67).
Near the race’s end, Drew Ritchey (Everett, Pa.; R&N Tire/LaSalles Racing Engines/Bedford Valley Petroleum #880) passed Duke for third place. Duke held on for fourth, followed by Zach Newlin (Millerstown, Pa.; Smith Concrete & Construction/Heather Sims Realtor/Newport VFW #11Z), who came home fifth after constant involvement in the battles for Top-5 positions.
Completing the Top 10 were front-row starter Erin Statler (Carlisle, Pa.; Fine Line Auto Body/Miner’s Machine Shop/Shultz Performance #2); Jake Frye (Lewisberry, Pa.; Shope’s Landscape Maintenance/McCarthy Tire & Auto/RS Mechanical Services #56); Scott Lutz (Jonestown, Pa.; Fredericksburg Eagle Hotel/Speedway Mart & Car Wash/Adams Auto Sales #33); Jaremi Hanson (Dillsburg, Pa.; Ort Signs #36), and Kyle Ganoe (Thompsontown, Pa.; Leisters Garage/DMY Engines/Norlin Warehousing #0).
The most serious incident of the feature came on lap 6 when Steve Kennewell (Hollidaysburg, Pa.; Icon Signs/C and Racing Engines-Toyer Shop; Dad #17K) flipped in turn 1. The crash brought out a red flag, but Kennewell exited his car on his own.
Next Saturday, the PASS/IMCA sprinters return to BAPS Motor Speedway for a regular show, joining the super sportsman cars, late models and xtreme stocks for a 7:00 p.m. start. On Saturday, June 29, PASS will race at Path Valley Speedway, where they will be in action along with the wingless super sportsman, 270 and 600cc micro sprints, 4-cylinder thunder cars and 4-cylinder strictly stocks.
