6.12.16 URSS Sprints Results

The United Rebel Sprint Series pulled into the Wakeeney Speedway with sixteen teams checking in for the evening’s festivities. Though the weather was hot and humid the staff at the lightning fast 3/8’s oval gave the racers a fast, tacky racetrack that proved to be a test for the racers. Plainville Kansas driver Jed Werner, who has had a somewhat frustrating first part of the season, picked up his first victory of the season in convincing fashion wiring the field to take the win in convincing fashion.

The field was led to the green flag by Pole sitter Jed Werner and Cody Lampe, with Werner taking the lead followed by Jeff Radcliffe, Lampe, Jeremy Huish and Zach Blurton rounding out the top five at the end of the first circuit. Blurton and Luke Cranston quickly dispatched Huish and Lampe on lap two putting them directly in John Webster’s sights. Lap four saw the first caution flag wave as Mike Beckerman came to a halt on the backstretch ending his night.

On the restart Werner once again bolted to the lead with Radcliffe, Blurton, Cranston and Webster in the top five. Back in the both Ty Williams and Darren Berry were weaving their way through traffic moving up through the field. Tracey Hill held down the seventh position with Kris Moore on his tail tank looking to take it away. Lap twelve would see the red flag fly as Oberlin’s Aaron Ploussard’s mount lost a motor on the backstretch resulting in a small oil fire going into turn three. Ploussard was not injured as the fire quickly extinguished itself.

On the restart, Werner would once again grab the point but behind him Cranston used the high side coming off of turn two to take the runner up spot from Radcliffe. That put Blurton on his tail tank and the Quinter Kansas driver wasted no time making the pass for the third spot. Radcliffe would soon be joined by John Webster to battle for the fourth spot.

As the laps dwindled down Werner pulled out to a sizeable lead and when the checkered flag fell it was Werner taking his first win of 2016 with Cranston, Blurton, Radcliffe and Webster rounding out the top five.

The Keizer Aluminum Racing Wheels “Hard Charger Award’ was won by Luke Cranston who came from his eighth starting spot to grab the runner position.

Heat Races were won by Brian Herbert and Zach Blurton.
