7.11.15 URSS Sprints Results

The tenth anniversary season of the United Rebel Sprint Series has featured nine different winners in the nine races held this season. The second night of the Myers Engine URSS National Points Series was no exception as Liberal Kansas’s Steven Richardson led all twenty five laps of the Wheatshocker Nationals Preliminary night and locked himself into Sunday nights $2000.00 to win main event.

Thirty five URSS teams checked into the RPM Speedway pits for the preliminary night of the Wheatshocker Nationals and race number two of the Myers Engine URSS National Points chase. Richardson made the top ten after finishing second in his heat race. During the Revenge Draw fellow racer Jeremy Huish drew the number one pill and gave the pole position to Richardson.

Richardson led the field to the green flag and jumped out to the lead with outside pole sitter Keefe Hemel, Ty Williams, Nate Berry and Jake Bubak rounding out the top five after lap one. Lap three saw Wakeeney Feature winner Nate Berry take the third spot from Williams on lap four. The first caution of the race waved as Jed Werner and Zac Taylor spun in turn four. On the restart Berry took to the high side and got high and spun in turn two to bring out the second caution of the event.

When racing resumed Richardson once again took the point with Hemel, Williams and Bubak in hot pursuit. Bubak used the high side to slingshot himself into the runner up spot on lap seven and set his sights on the leader. Further back in the field, seventeenth place starter Koby Walters was steadily winding his way to the front and by lap ten had made it to the tenth spot. One lap later, Jeff Radcliffe went off of turn two and came to a halt at the track exit in turn three to bring out the third caution of the night.

On the restart Richardson once again took the point with Bubak in his tire tracks, as Williams and Hemel battled for the third spot. Williams would take the position on lap twelve, leaving Hemel to battle Brian Herbert and a hard charging Luke Cranston for the fourth spot. Lap thirteen saw Walters on the tail tank of Cranston to battle for the sixth position with Walters briefly taking the spot only to relinquish it on lap fifteen. The battle for the runner up spot heated up as Williams caught Bubak and the pair were nose to tail for several laps.

The final caution flag of the night waived on lap eighteen as Darren Bowman rolled to a stop in turn four. On the restart Williams used the high side to grab the runner up spot from Bubak, right behind them Brian Herbert and Luke Cranston shot around Hemel who slid high in turn to take over the fourth and fifth positions.

Richardson continued to hold the point as Williams and Bubak were looking to gain ground on the leader. Back in the pack it was a battle of the deuces as Zach Blurton and James Riner for the tenth position, but they were soon to be joined by Coby Pearce who split the pair with one lap to go.

Up front Richardson was not to be denied as he claimed the Preminary Night Feature win and locked himself into Sunday Nights $2,000.00 to win A Feature. Ty Williams, Jake Bubak and Brian Herbert also locked themselves into the Sunday Feature.

Koby Walters picked up his second consecutive Keiser Aluminum Racing Wheels Hard Charger Award by moving up nine spots from his seventeenth starting spot to finish in the eight positions.
