5.26.12 URSS Sprints Results

It was a wild night in Jetmore Kansas for opening night of the Steve King Memorial. The wind was howling and the engines were roaring as 29 cars checked in the pits. Liberal’s Ty Williams would come away with the A Feature win after running down an ailing Brian Herbert on the last lap.

Cody Caldwell led the field to the green flag and led the 1st lap when a caution came out for Kaden Taylor, who spun. On the re-start, Caldwell continued to lead until lap 9 when Brian Herbert battled his way up from the 6th position to take the top spot bringing Williams with him in second. The race came to a halt on lap 15 when Connor Atkinson hopped a wheel sending her into a wild series of end over end flips. She would be okay but done for the night. As the race once again got under way, Herbert would hold onto the lead until a front wing mount broke allowing Williams to close up and wrestle the lead from him coming down for the white flag. Williams would hold off a last corner charge by Herbert for the win. Darren Bowman came across the line 3rd and also picked up the Keizer Wheels Hard Charger Award after starting 12th. Cody Caldwell would have his best finish of his career in 4th with points leader Jeff Radcliffe rounding out the top five.
