7.10.21 Wayne County Speedway Results

By Mike Swanger

It was another action packed night of racing at Wayne County Speedway Saturday night as the Ohio Thunder Racesaver Sprints were joined by the Indiana Racesaver Sprints and the Allegheny Sprint Tour Sprinters as they were chasing after the $1500 to win feature that was increased thanks to Pine Tree Towing & Recovery. Monty Ferriera grabbed the lead from his outside front row position until a lap three red stopped the action when Austin Powell, Jim Morris and Kyle Kruger all tangled in turn four that blocked the track as Jake Hesson went to the infield , ending his night as Powell was the only one able to continue. Ferriera continued with the lead as Justin Clark moved into second on the restart. Another red flag waved on lap 8 as Caleb Erwin was trying to get off the track but hit a retaining tire on the front stretch and flopped over on his side. As the race went back to green, Clark would start to put the pressure on Ferriera for the lead as Dustin Stroup and fast qualifier Jacob Gomola dueled for third. Clark found the opening he needed coming out of turn two on the highside to swipe the lead away from Ferriera on lap 11. Two laps later, Stroup motored past Ferriera for second and closed in on Clark. Three cautions between laps 14 and 18 for spun cars kept the field bunched together and on the restart of lap 18, Stroup wrestled the lead away from Clark but the Hamersville driver reclaimed the top spot on the next circuit. The two cars would stay close together for the lead as they pulled away from the rest of the field. As the white flag waved, Clark and Stroup got together in turn two as both hit the wall and Stroup rolled over as Clark was able to continue as the red flag appeared. Clark and his Walker Performance, Slicker Graphics and State Farm Insurance/Jason Dunn #78 was able to hold off Ferriera the final lap to collect his second win of the week end, winning at Dog Hollow Speedway the night before. Rob Felix, Austin Powell and Steve Cousins filled out the top five as Brandon McClain, Clark and Stroup won the heats with Lewie Christian topping the last chance race. Clark did not have the night he wanted after winning the last chance race in the Pine Tree Towing & Recovery Sprint feature as a flat tire just as the green waved put him to the tail and as he was moving quickly through the field, he hit the dirt berm in turn 2 and went nose over tail three times on lap 4. Chris Myers set the pace for the first 4 circuits and then gave way to Broc Martin and from then on it would be a race to finish second. Chris Myers had his hands full with R J Jacobs and Tyler Street for second with Jamie Myers, Dean Jacobs and Andrew Palker racing for a top five spot. Street took third on lap 11 and hounded Myers for second until lap 15 when Street smacked the turn two wall and flipped, ending his run. After a lap 19 caution, Dean Jacobs slipped past Jamie Myers on the restart and on the next lap passed Chris Myers for second but by this time, Martin had dashed out to a big lead and the Orrville driver would take the Orrville Trucking, Chaser’s Drive Thru and Guerne Heights Drive Inn #83m to a three second win over Jacobs. Chris and Jamie Myers finished third and fourth as Zach Ames ended with a season best fifth. Winning the heat races were Dean Jacobs, Martin and Ricky Peterson. The CORBON Ammunition Modifieds started their evening out on the wild side as heat race action saw Nathon Loney and Kyle Moore get together in turn two fighting for the lead and damaging both cars as Moore would be able to fix his but Loney was done for the night. In the feature, Chad Coleman took the lead from his pole position for the first two laps before fellow front row starter Casey Butler took over. Butler’s time out front only lasted one lap as heat winner Scott Peltz took over as Moore moved into second on lap six from his 7th starting spot. The Mansfield driver spent the next three laps looking for an opening to move past Peltz. That move would come on lap nine when Moore and his Kepling Flooring, Arnold Motorsports and Kryptonite Racecars #1* took to the highside of turn two and motored past Peltz for the lead. Peltz stayed close but could not make a run back at Moore. Rounding out the top five were Mark Gardiner, Jeff Johnson and Coleman. In the last four races for the McKenzie Concrete Super Stocks, Moore had won three of them and starting tonight off by setting a new track record of 19.217 seconds and winning his heat, he was looking for another win. Brandon Morrow secured the lead at the drop of the green and looked to be the one to beat. Strasburg’s Paul Holmes would pull into second on lap three with Moore right behind him. Morrow would keep about a six car lenght lead as Holmes was trying to catch the leader and hold off Moore at the same time. Morrow would open the door for Holmes as on lap 13, Morrow would touch the turn two wall which affected the handling of the #c9 machine. With the white flag waving, both Holmes and Moore moved past the ailing Morrow and on the last lap, Holmes was able to fend off Moore for his second win of the year aboard the NewFast Racing #70. Chase Alexander finished fourth and Brian Stuhldreher finished fifth in his debut at ‘Orrville’s Historic Oval’. Racer’s were chaing the O’Reilly’s Auto Parts ‘Race to the Championship’ points and also competing for more Contingency Connection ‘Racers Rewards’ prizes. Next Saturday night, July 17th will be the Buckeye Late Model Speedweek race for the Don & Hans Gross Memorial with $3,000 going to the winner. The Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and the Mod Lites all will be in action as the Sprints take the night off. Gates will Open at 3 pm and racing at 7 pmWAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY RESULTSSaturday, July 10, 2021305 RACESAVER SPRINTSFast Qualifier Jacob Gomola 16.279 secondsHeat 1 Brandon McClain, Jacob Gomola, Jordan Welch, Steve Cousins, Jim Morris, Vivian Jones, Lewie Christain, Joe Coggin, Caleb ErwinHeat 2 Justin Clark, Mike Helterbran, Monty Ferriera, Rob Felix, Kyle Kruger, Tyler Hesson, Jarrett Rosencrance, Scott Richards, Greg DobroskyHeat 3 Dustin Stroup, Jacob Stickle, Tommy Jasen, Jake Hesson, Andy Cavanaugh, John Paynter, Austin Powell, James Moore’B’ Main Lewie Christian, Vivian Jones, Austin Powell, Jarrett Rosencrance, Caleb Erwin, Joe Coggin, James Moore, Scott Richards, Tyler Hesson dns, John Paynter dns, Greg Dobrosky dnsFeature Justin Clark, Monty Ferriera, Rob Felix, Austin Powell, Steve Cousins, Jacob Stickle, Jarrett Rosencrance, Andy Cavanaugh, Tommy Jasen, Vivian Jones, Lewie Christain, Jacob Gomola, Brandon McClain, Dustin Stroup, Mike Helterbran, Caleb Erwin, Jordan Welch, Kyle Kruger, Jake Hesson, Jim MorrisPINE TREE TOWING & RECOVERY SPRINTSFast Qualifier Jamie Myers 14.956 secondsHeat 1 Dean Jacobs, Jamie Myers, Bryan Nuckles, Danny Mumaw, Nick Patterson, Zach Ames, Danial Burkhart, Brad Reber, Jonah AumendHeat 2 Broc Martin, Chris Myers, R J Jacobs, Clay Riney, Jake Hesson, Justin Clark, Shawn Hubler, Travis Danford, Joe AdorjanHeat 3 Ricky Peterson, Andrew Palker, Tyler Street, Jason Dolick, Dylan Kingan, Lance Webb, Jeremy Duposki, Ron Hamlin’B’ Main Justin Clark, Danial Burkhart, Shawn Hubler, Lance Webb, Zach Ames, Jeremy Duposki, Brad Reber, Jonah Aumend, Travis Danford, Joe Adorjan, Ron Hamlin dnsFeature Broc Martin, Dean Jacobs, Chris Myers, Jamie Myers, Zach Ames, R J Jacobs, Bryan Nuckles, Ricky Peterson, Jason Dolick, Dylan Kingan, Nick Patterson, Clay Riney, Jake Hesson, Lance Webb, Danial Burkhart, Danny Mumaw, Tyler Street, Andrew Palker, Shawn Hubler, Justin ClarkCORBON AMMUNITION MODIFIEDSFast Qualifier Nathon Loney 18.832 secondsHeat 1 Scott Peltz, Jeff Johnson, Mark Gardiner, Joe Smith, Casey Butler, Chad Coleman, Dave Bodkins, Jacob Myers, Nathon Loney, Kyle Moore, Richard Grogg, Mark SmithFeature Kyle Moore, Scott Peltz, Mark Gardiner, Jeff Johnson, Chad Coleman, Casey Butler, Mark Smith, Joe Smith, Jacob Myers, Dave Bodkins dns, Nathon Loney dns, Richard Grogg dns MCKENZIE CONCRETE SUPER STOCKSFast Qualifier Kyle Moore 19.217 seconds ntrHeat 1 Kyle Moore, Chase Alexander, Paul Holmes, Brandon Morrow, Seth Dickerson, Codee Schneider, Brian Stuhldreher, Brandon Craver, Jimmy Humphrey, Paul McVicker, Don Rutt dns, Curt Zimmerman dnsFeature Paul Holmes, Kyle Moore, Brandon Morrow, Chase Alexander, Brian Stuhldreher, Brandon Craver, Jimmy Humphrey, Paul McVicker, Codee Schneider, Seth Dickerson, Don Rutt dns, Curt Zimmerman dns
