Budds Creek MD, (4/13/24)- Known for his prowess a winning big money events, Mechanicsville Md’s Derick Quade wired the field for his first win of the season in the 49 lap “Danny Garrett Memorial” last Saturday night at Potomac Speedway. The win for Quade, aboard his iconic Longhorn no.74, was worth a hefty $3999 payday and it would be his 34th career Potomac feature win.

The re-draw placed Quade on the front row for the start of the event and he made the most of his good fortune as he took the lead on the first lap and would eventually pace all 49 circuits. Several drivers including Kyle Hardy, Kenny Moreland, Kyle Lear and eventual runner up Walker Arthur all chased Quade at one point during the event, but Quade had the car to beat all night and would go on to score the popular win. Tire wear was evident throughout the race and as Quade drove to victory lane, his cars right rear tire went flat. “With about five to go I could feel it starting to go down and I was hoping we could hold on.” Derick stated post race. “The crew has this car so good I think sometimes it could drive itself but we wouldn’t be here without all of them and our sponsors, this is a good way to start the season.” 12th starting Michael Carter took third with Kyle Lear and Kenny Moreland completing the top-five. Scoring heat race wins over the 27 car field were Quade, Moreland and Hardy.

Second year Street Stock driver Jason Penn took the lead on the third lap from Mason Hanson and would drive to his first career Potomac feature win in the divisions 15 lap main. “We work on this thing sometimes until 11 o’clock at night during the week to get ready and a big thanks to everybody who helped get us here tonight.” John Cobb, Stevie Gingery, Matt Tarbox and opening day winner Wyatt Hanson rounded out the top five.
In support class action Owen Lacey broke through for his first career Potomac feature win in the 15 lap Hobby Stock feature, class rookie Kelly Crouse drove to his career first division feature win in just his second start in the 15 lap Strictly stock main with veteran Larry Lamb also taking his career first division feature victory in the 15 lap roadster contest.
