Austin Reed made a clean sweep in 305 action at Bedford Sunday night. Reed set fast time and won his heat, before leading every lap to win the Junior Ritchey tribute 25 lap event in grand style. In other action, Spike Moore came from deep in the pack to score the EMod win and Denver Dishong scored his first Pure Stock win of 2024.
Austin Reed started on the 305 pole and took off at the start. Brent Shearer took second early on but never really challenged Reed. As the pair entered traffic by lap 10, Shearer had hopes of closing, but the caution flew a lap later eliminating the traffic issue.
With clear sailing once again, Reed zoomed away on the restart and was never again really threatened for the win. Shearer soldiered on to score second at the line, ahead of Kruz Kepner, Nick Sweigart and Christian Rumsey who came from 12th in the starting order.
Heats for the 39 entries were won by Reed, Shearer, Ken Duke and John Scarborough. Josh Spicer and Kolby Weaver scored B event wins.
Donnie Farlling was the early EMod leader but Mike Altobelli roared into second by lap two. Altobelli immediately challenged Farlling, taking the lead with a well executed slide job on lap five.
But Farlling crossed over and retook the lead as the pair hit the backstretch.
But Farlling’s happiness was short lived as he exited the event in turn three. For most observers with Altobelli in the lead it seemed likely another win was in the offing. But Spike Moore had arrived from deep in the pack and took up the chase on Altobelli.
On lap 15 Moore made the big move on Altobelli and zoomed by for the lead. After that he opened up a substantial distance to score the easy win. Altobelli hung on for second, ahead of TJ Dehaven, Glenn Elliott and Brandon Hoover. Elliott had slowed almost to a stop on the first lap of the event, falling back to dead last, before his dramatic rush to the front. Dehaven and Jacob Marker won the heats.
Denver Dishong, close so many times in 2024, finally made the trip to the Bedford stage in the Pure Stock event. He broke into the lead at the start but was immediately hounded by Chubby Childers. Childers hounded him every lap before Dishong eased away late in the event. Two cautions on lap 12 and 13 closed the field but Dishong again scampered away for the win. Childers ran second followed by Charlie Clise, Dalton Weyandt and Derrick Hinish. Hinish and Clise won the heats.
