Malta, NY – NYSSCA Night – A king was crowned Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway and another already crowned king returned to victory lane for the first time this season. The 13-time track champion Kenny Tremont, Jr. picked up the Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event win while Robbie Speed opened the King of Dirt Pro Stock Series with a win.

In other action Jeremy Pitts (Featherfoot Sportsman Series), Rob Lanfear (Limited Sportsman), Josh Coonradt (Street Stock) and Steve Ryan (Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinders) each picked up feature wins.

Brian Whittemore and Ricky Davis led the Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified field to the green with Whittemore taking the early lead over Jesse Mueller, L.J. Lombardo, Matt Depew and Keith Flach. Flach took over fourth from Depew on lap seven and set his sights on Lombardo. Mueller would take over the top spot on lap seven. Lombard moved to second on lap eight with Flach following to third. On lap nine Matt Delorenzo took over fifth from Whittemore. Delorenzo hopped the berm on lap 12 which allowed Kenny Tremont, Jr. take over fifth.

With 15 laps in the books Mueller held a small lead over Flach, Lombardo, Tremont and Depew. Flach would take over the top spot from Mueller on lap 17 as Tremont closed in on the leaders. Tremont took over third from Lombardo on lap 19. By lap 20 Flach had opened nearly a straightaway advantage over new second place runner Tremont.

On lap 25 Flach had the same straightaway lead over Tremont, Mueller, Lombardo and Depew. On lap 30 Tremont had closed the gap on Flach and took over the lead a lap later. From there Tremont would hold off Flach for the win. Flach settled for second with Lombardo third, Johnson fourth and Marc Johnson fifth. A total of 33 Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modifieds were on hand with heat races being won by Flach, Depew and Heffner.

Jack Swinton and Mike Ostrander led the Featherfoot Warrior Series 25 lap feature event to the green flag with fourth place starter Cody Bleau taking the early lead over Swinton and Ostrander. Ken Conroy looked to the outside of Ostrander on lap two while Jon Miller settled into fifth. Conroy took over third on lap three and just as he was taking the second position from Swinton, a multi-car incident in turn four caused the first stoppage of the event. Miller also came to a stop on the front stretch.

When racing resumed Bleau held the lead over Swinton, Conroy, Andrew Buff and John Proctor. The second caution period slowed the field on lap six when numerous cars got together in turn four. Among them were Robert Bublak, Jr. and Daryl Nutting.

The restart would see Bleau hold the lead over Swinton however Proctor would go around in front of traffic and numerous cars would pile in. Nick Anatriello would get the worst of it as he rolled over on his side. When racing went back under the green Buff held the lead over Swinton, Jeremy Pitts, Chris Johnson and Buff. By lap ten the top four were battling under a blanket with Swinton and Pitts battling side by side.

Pitts took over the lead on lap 13 with Bleau, Johnson, Swinton and Jason Gray completing the top five. Gray moved Swinton on lap 14 and then Bleau on lap 15 to move into third. Chad Edwards took over fifth from Swinton on lap 16 and then fourth from Bleau a lap later.

In the end Pitts had the field covered, bringing the Grennon Project Services number 27P home first for his second win of the season over Johnson, Gray, Edwards and Robert Bublak, Jr. Heat races for the 33 Featherfoot Warrior Series Sportsman were won by Ostrander, Miller and Conroy. The consolation event was won by Bublak.

Walt Brownell and Rob Yetman led the King of Dirt Pro Stock Series to the green with Ed Thompson spinning on the opening lap. On the second attempt at the start, Brownell held the lead with Yetman, Nick Stone, Chuck Dumblewski and Jimmy Eaton rounding out the top five. The caution flag waved on lap two when multiple drivers tangled in turn four.

On the restart Brownell held the lead as Yetman and Stone battled for second. Stone would take over the position on lap three with Dumblewski and Brandon Emigh completing the top five. Emigh moved to the inside of Dumblewski on lap six and a lap later took over position number four. Yetman moved back alongside Stone on lap eight and a lap later took over second.

Stone though was not done and stayed close to Yetman who was a car length behind Brownell. Jimmy Eaton came to a stop on lap 14, bringing out the caution period. On the restart Yetman held the lead with Brownell a close second, Stone third, Emigh fourth and a battle between Dumblewski and Dave Bissonnette for fifth.

Brownell was not done as he regained the lead on lap 17 with Nick Stone looking under Yetman for second. Yetman and Stone battled side by side with Stone taking second on lap 20. Meanwhile Bissonnette moved into a distant fifth. The caution flag waved on lap 23 for Dave Depaulo who slowed on the speedway.

When racing resumed Brownell held the lead over Stone, Yetman, Emigh and Bissonnette. The caution flag waved on lap 26 for a two car tangle in turn three and four. On the restart the top four remained the same with Robbie Speed moving to fifth. Dan Older, Sr. spun in turn two on lap 27 to slow the field.

On the restart Brownell would lead with Stone second, Yetman third, Emigh fourth and Speed fifth. After Danny Wood spun on lap 28, racing resumed with Brownell holding the lead. The restart produced hard racing and on lap 29 Stone spun amidst it. On the restart Speed made a daring move to take over the lead.

Speed, who started 28th brought home the win over Yetman, Brownell, Mike White and Dumblewski. With 32 King of Dirt Series Pro Stock’s on hand, the heat races were won by Brownell, Older and Dumblewski.

Rob Lanfear and Mike Block led the Limited Sportsman field to the green with Lanfear taking the initial lead over Derek Bornt and Zach Daurio. A spin on lap three would bring out the caution flag and force a restart. On the restart Lanfear held the lead over Daurio and Block before the caution waved again on lap four. The top three remained the same on the restart with Jack Lehner one spot out of a podium position.

Lehner moved past Block on lap seven for the third position. The caution waved on lap 14 when Dan Grignon and Reggie Bonner spun off the topside of turns three and four. On the restart Lanfear held the lead over Daurio and Lehner. In the end Lanfear picked up the win over Daurio, Brandon Pitcher, Lehner and Block. A total of 23 Limited Sportsman were on hand with heat races being won by Daurio, Lanfear and Block.

John Hayes was first to lead the special 30 lap Glens Falls Tile and Supplies Street Stock event. Hayes gave way to third place starter Jake Currier on lap two and fall back through the field. Damon Anderson spun on lap seven to bring out the caution period. On the restart Currier held the lead until the race was slowed on lap nine. Currier led on the restart and held the lead until Josh Coonradt took over on lap 12. Coonradt led the remainder of the way to pick up the win over Jason Meltz, Bill Dupree, Hunter Sanchez and Yule Cook.

Steve Ryan picked up the win in the Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinder division. Ryan took over the top spot on lap 12 and pulled away. Ben Grant finished second with Mike Parodi finishing third, Will Ryan fourth and Dave Mullineaux fifth. A total of 18 drivers were on hand.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action next Friday night with the Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modifieds and the remainder of the weekly divisions, plus the DMA USAC Midgets. The Sportsman division will compete in the annual Mark Hughes Memorial event. There will also be a bicycle give-a-way.
