For the first time ever, the Steelbock Bandits were on hand to do battle in the inaugural Rick King Memorial paying $5,000 to the winner.

The Street Stock class would be up first for a 20 lap feature. Jerry Hux would lead us to green after scoring the pole in Hotlap/Qualifying earlier in the day. Josh Henry had some engine issues in time trials but seemed to have them fixed as he would power to the lead in the opening laps ahead of Hux, Allen Burchfield, Austin Byrd and JD Smith. It was a fantastic battle as they’d go three wide at one point for the the third spot. JD Smith would make hard contact with the front stretch wall which would end his night early a couple laps later. Austin Byrd was fresh off his first ever win at 411 and was set on go as he moved his #13 past Jerry Hux and into the runner up spot. Blake Jenkins was in the mix for the third spot but slowed with mechanical issues. Up front it was all Josh Henry who pulled away to a big lead in the closing laps picking up his third win since we went back to weekly racing.

The 20 lap Sportsman feature would be up next and unfortunately chaos would be the theme for this one. A huge multi-car crash would bring out the red flag on the opening laps as the #14 of Lee Merritt, #28 of Zach Weich, the #17 of Adam Bishop were among those involved. Nick Miley and Eric Hux were also caught up in the crash both being done for the night with heavy damage. Back under green and Hayden Cardwell would show the way with Michael Courtney close in pursuit. Jed Emert made his move putting his #98 into the third position. The top two began to inch away from the rest of the pack until a caution for the #25 of Colby Horner would spin in turn three collecting the #44 of David Beeler and the #14 of Lee Merritt. Track officials would cut the race short due to time limits with Cardwell getting the win.

The 50 lap Rick King Memorial was up next and it would be an instant classic. Mack McCarter in his McCarter Brothers racing #51 put himself on top of the leaderboard as we went green ahead of Rusty Ballenger, Jordan Rodabaugh and Jensen Ford. Rodabaugh had his #66 setup just right as he put pressure on Ballenger early for the second spot. McCarter began to inch away out front but the night wouldn’t be easy as Rodabaugh had gotten past Ballenger for second. The leaders were setting a fast pace and found themselves in lap traffic just 20 of the 50 circuits in. The #29 of Ballenger seemed to be slipping back as he’d lose another spot to Jensen Ford. A couple laps later his top five run would come to an end as he brought out the caution. The #44 of Chase King, who is usually strong at the 4-1-1 would slow and pull off track short of the finish as well. Kenny Collins is usually a regular in the Super Late Models but was putting on a clinic as he moved his #11 into third spot joining the battle between McCarter and Rodabaugh. McCarter was working the low line so Rodabaugh went up top and got a huge run coming off turn four to the finish setting up a drag race for the win. McCarter would inch out the win in a photo finish winning by just .0008 margin.

James Burnett is always strong at the 4-1-1 and would once again earn the pole for the 20 lap Front Wheel Drive feature. He’d set sail on the start with Eric Partin, Nick Adams and Ray Wyatt in chase. Wyatt would make his move in the opening laps getting past Adams for the third spot setting his sights on the leaders. He was on the move as he closed in on Partin who held down the runner up spot until a debris caution on lap seven slowed the pace. Corey Vickers would put his #7 out front ahead of Anthony Brown and Johnny Grooms the top three on the start. A scary accident would slow the pace in the opening laps as the #20 Brown made hard contact with the outside tractor tire on the exit of two moving it down onto the racing surface. He’d be done for the day along with Grooms and the #59 of Larry Hickman. Joseph McGill and Colby Scott had a great battle for the runner up spot.
