6.17.23 Deer Creek Speedway Results
By: Todd Narveson
The annual Pink-Out Night with Join The Journey was the focus at Deer Creek Speedway. This week’s program was to raise awareness and donations for breast cancer.
There was a silent auction, 50/50 ticket sales and the push-up challenge for the winning drivers in victory lane. Event t-shirts also helped raise funds as well.
The event was sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants State Bank with support from Weber Auto Parts, Old Dutch Snacks and Evans Printing & Publishing.
An expansive field of 147-cars turned out for the show. Four of the five divisions had first time winners while one added to his win streak.
Fourty-two Kid’s Dreams Come True USRA B-Mods had the field split into two 18-lap features. Ben Moudry led early on in the first feature and was chased by Dylan Goettl. Goettl took the lead on lap nine and stayed there.
A late race caution with three laps to go, but Goettl drove to the win. Moudry finished second with Hunter Kennedy third. Noah Grinstead was fourth and Zach Elward finished fifth.
In the second feature, Taylor Skauge held the lead until he was challenged by Brandon Hare. Hare stole the lead on lap seven, but Skauge returned the favor on lap eight.
Skauge drove on for his first win of the season. Garitt Wytaske had a late charge to second with Hare in third. Scott Demmer finished fourth while Harley Dais was fifth.
Goettl and Skauge became the eleventh and twelfth different B-mod feature winners in 13-shows. Only Joe Chisholm has more than one win.
Twenty-five Meadow Greens Golf Course USRA Hobby Stocks started their 18-lap feature. Chris Hovden took the early advantage but Nick Schwebach was close behind.
Schwebach closed in on Hovden and challenged for the lead on lap seven. Schwebach nabbed the lead and led the rest of the way for his first win of the year. This was Schwebach’s first win at Deer Creek since June 18, 2018.
The large field of 35 Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds were on hand. This was their largest field since August 25, 2018. Greg Pfeifer Jr. and Don Schaefer had a good battle for the lead early on.
Pfeifer led until lap three when Schaefer took over. Shane Howell was in the mix and went three wide for the lead with Pfeifer and Schaefer. Howell took the lead on lap nine but would face a challenge late in the race.
Jason Vandekamp moved to second and went after Howell for the lead. They were close on lap 15 and 16, but Howell hung on for the win with Vandekamp second.
Kobie Kath raced to third with Zach Benson coming from 12th to fourth. Brandon Jensen charged from 16th to fifth.
Polesitter Levin Sand led the first lap of the Rochester Chevrolet USRA Stock Car feature. Kyle Falck took over on lap two as Brayden Gjere moved to second.
Falck and Gjere both ran the high line until lap 13 when Gjere threw a slide job and took the lead in turn four. Falck came back with a slider of his own on lap 14, but Gjere dove low and reclaimed the lead.
From there Gjere went on to his third win in a row. Falk was second with Jesse Brown in third. Travis Shipman and Brady Williamson rounded out the top five.
John Doelle led lap one of the NAPA Auto Care Centers USRA Modified feature. Jacob Bleess took the lead on lap two and Josh Angst was also with the leaders. Angst stole the lead on lap four and tried to extend his advantage.
Brandon Davis was on the move from 12th and got up to third. Angst and the lead pack had to negotiate some heavy lapped traffic, but Angst sliced around them with no issues.
Angst also picked up his first win of the season with Bleess second and Davis third. Kylie Kath would finish in fourth and Aaron Benson was fifth.
