2.16.19 – 411 Motor Speedway Results

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2019) – Mother Nature threatened to cancel running of the “Sweetheart” Saturday at 411 Motor Speedway, but track owner Mitch McCarter and staff put forth tremendous effort to prepare the racing surface. Fans were not disappointed as Tennessee’s Action Track lived up to its billing, with great racing featuring cars jockeying for real estate mixing it up two- and three-wide.
Open Wheel Modifieds highlighted the racing program with Clayton Miller of Elkton, Kentucky, capturing the $2,000 victory, his first-ever win at the track. Jesse Lowe of Crossville recorded the $1,000-to-win Crate Late Model feature win.
Eric Hux of Parrottsville sped to the Modified Street win, while Hayson Collett of Maynardville captured the Classic victory, with Josh Henry of Newport getting the Street Stock win.
After the initial start of the Open Wheel Modified feature was waved off for a caution for a turn one tangle between Brian Nantz and P.J. Simpson, the 30-lap feature went green with Adam Stricker taking the race lead, with Amos Bunch, Clayton Miller, Rocky Wilson, and Josh Henry giving chase.
Miller would drive past Bunch for second on lap three, while the caution would fly one tour later when Nantz and Rick Standridge would spin in turn one. Back underway, Stricker would maintain the race lead, with Miller in pursuit, while Henry would pressure Wilson for the fourth position. The caution would appear again on lap eight and would eventually turn into a red flag when Standridge hit the outside retaining wall in turn four and his mount would end up sitting rear bumper first up on the outside wall.
Stricker would continue to lead on the restart, while Miller began to apply more pressure to the leader, while Billy Palmer would take the fifth position away from Henry on lap eleven. Miller would duck to the inside and take the lead momentarily on lap thirteen, but the caution would appear again just as Miller made his pass for Nantz, who sat turned around in turn four.
The restart would see Miller continue to pressure Stricker for the race lead and Miller would again scoot past Stricker on lap 16, only to have another caution appear when Cameron Marlar would loop his entry in turn four. This restart would see Stricker and Miller settle into a side-by-side battle for the lead only to have a caution wave on lap nineteen for Josh Stoglin who had slowed at the top of turn two.
The restart would see the battle for the lead resume and Miller would work under Stricker exiting turn four to finally snag the top spot on lap twenty. Miller would pull away slightly from Stricker, while Bunch would pressure Stricker for the runner-up spot and Stricker would slip high in turn one and Bunch would take the second position on lap twenty-three. Two more cautions would wave on laps 24 and 25, but Miller would not be challenged the remainder of the way and score the $2,000 victory. Bunch would finish second, with Stricker settling for third. Henry would come home fourth, while 16th-place starter Glen Hounshell would complete the top five.
The remainder of the top 10 finishers were Rocky Wilson, Tyler James, Brian Nantz, Cameron Marlar, and Robbie Reagan.
The first race of the night would be the 25-lap Crate Late Model feature. Jesse Lowe would earn fast time in Qualifying putting his #5J on top of the brand new scoreboard. One of the odds on favorites, Cory Hedgecock had to exit the track before the race to get his window net installed but would make it back out before the green getting his position back. The green waved and Lowe took the lead setting sail on the start. Hedgecock didn’t have a great qualifying lap but quickly made his way up through the field and into the runner up spot. Trouble for Zach Shannon who would slow early on pulling off track ending his night early. 8 laps in and a multi car accident would once again slow the pace. Zach Sise, Ruben Mayfield, and Tyler Arrington were among those involved. Hedgeocck had closed in on the back of Lowe as they battled it out for the lead. A late race caution would set up a GWC finish. Lowe would hold on to pick up his second career win at 411.
The 20-lap Modified Street feature was next up on the schedule. The yellow would wave quickly as the #15 of James Mitchell would go for a quick spin setting up a restart. Eric Hux has dominated lately and was once again the car to beat as he took the lead ahead of his partner Wayne Rader. Last years Champion David Clark would work his way up into the second spot setting his sights on the leader. The strong third place run Rader had going came to an end when he smacked the turn four wall. Hux would pull away in the second half of the race to pick up the win.
Lee Merritt set fast-time in Classic qualifying, but outside front row starter Hayston Collett grabbed the lead at drop of the green. Charles Bates also had a strong run early on contending for the race lead but would fall off the pace later on. The top two would pull away from Will Carey who had moved his way up to the third spot. Merritt would have one final shot coming off turn four as they drag raced to the finish line. Collett picked up the win in a photo finish.
Josh Henry of Newport sped to the Street Stock victory over Don McCourt, Ryan Bailey, Shawn Henry and Josh Driskill.
