3.20.18 Volusia Speedway Park Results

(3-19-18) Barberville, FL – Volusia Speedway Park opened up its 50th season of racing action this past Saturday night with a full house not only in the stands, but in the pits as well with nearly 100 cars checked in over 6 classes. The Florida Late Models led the evenings car count as 34 entries signed in for the first Challenge Series race.

To start the night off Voluisa Speedway Park held a special opening ceremony commemorating the 50 years of racing action. In attendance, and racing, and the night saw Buzzie Ruetimann wheel his #00 Modified on the historic night as well.

Leading off the night went o the Florida Late Models who were opening up VSP’s 50th anniversary with the first of several Challenge Series events. Jumping out to the early and leading often was Nevin Gainey in his Kryptonite Race Cars #17, but the man on the move was David Whitener as he worked his way to the front of the field. Numerou cautions slowed the pace of the field throught the event as the track was dry and slick and race teams searched around for traction at the World’s Fastest Half Mile”, As the race neared the finish Whitener would close in on Gainey, but couldnt get close enough to to Challenge Gainey as he went on to win the season opener. Whitener crossed the line second follwed by Shan Smith, Adam Bennett, and Brian Smith.
