4.20.19 Central Missouri Speedway Results

(Warrensburg, MO) The 2019 race season at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) kicked off in a big way on Power 97 FM Radio Race Night on Saturday with 90 race teams on hand for competition. At the conclusion of the night, Austin Siebert in A-Mods, Clayton Campbell in Street Stocks, Dakota Foster in B-Mods, Dillon Raffurty in Mod-Lites, and Zack Sanders in Pure Stocks claimed feature race victories!

Pure Stock Recap: A total of 13 drivers competed in two races as J.R. Billings blasted to the front of the field in the opening heat to lead the way over David Doelz. Zack Sanders dominated the second heat race ahead of Don Johnson at the finish. For the 15-lap main event, Billings and Sanders led the charge with Sanders quickly establishing himself as the man to beat. As Sanders set the torrid pace up front, Billings and Darrin Christy ran close for second. In the end, Sanders prevailed for his first-ever Pure Stock a-main victory at CMS with Billings, Christy, Logan Headley, and Doelz rounding out the top five.

Mod-Lites Recap: There were 26 Mod-Lite drivers present in four qualifying heat races, as defending champion Dillon Raffurty, Michael Raffurty, Travis Alexander, and Darren Phillips claimed heat-race wins. The 20-lap main event was challenging with several cautions and one red-flag incident, involving a turn two flip accident by Josh Crump, in which Crump emerged from the car okay. Dillon Raffurty and Phillips led the field to the start with Raffurty quickly moving out front to pace the field. Phillips spun from contention early on after a strong start, which allowed Ed Griggs and Michael Raffurty to move forward. After the red-flag incident on lap 12, drivers settled into their race rhythm, but it was defending champion Dillon Raffurty who claimed the first Mod-Lite a-main of the year ahead of Griggs, Michael Raffurty, Justin Raffurty, and Travis Alexander.

B-Mod Recap: Three heat races were held for the 21 B-Mods drivers on hand. Brent Fielder advanced forward to claim the opening heat with Kameron Grindstaff also moving forward to capture heat two. In the final heat, Kerry Davis celebrated a welcome return to CMS by capturing the win. For the 20-lap a-main, Fielder and Grindstaff led the field to the initial green flag. In one of the tightest battles of the night, drivers worked hard to gain positions. Fielder, Grindstaff, Chad Walker, and Davis were strong near the front as Derek Nevels and Patrick Royalty stayed in contention. As laps wound down, Royalty moved up through the field and eventually made his way to the front, apparently on his way to victory. Meanwhile, Jim Moody, Dakota Foster, Davis, Grindstaff, and Jeremy Lile were fighting for spots in the top five. When the checkers flew, it was Royalty who crossed the finish line first; however, he did not pass post-race technical inspection and was disqualified from the event. Ultimately, the victory went to fifth-starting Foster in a furious battle near the top as Moody finished second with Davis, Grindstaff and Lile rounding out the top five.

Street Stock Recap: Drivers qualified their way onto the main event starting grid through a pair of heat races with Larry Ferris capturing the opening heat ahead of a hard-charging Eric Hammons. Former champion Clayton Campbell led the way in heat two over another former champion, Brett Wood, in second. For the 15-lap a-main, the former champs put on a classic battle at the front of the field battling side-by-side for several laps. Ferris was in contention early but fell to mechanical woes. Hammons later joined the three-way battle for the lead with Jason Park and Jimmy Ngo also running strong. In the end, Campbell prevailed just ahead of Wood with Hammons in third. Parks ran a strong fourth with Jimmy Ngo completing the top five.

A-Mod Recap: Drivers set their field for the intended 25-lap main event through three qualifying heat races. Rick Beebe returned to CMS victory lane with a convincing victory in the opening heat over Jimmy Dowell. Defending track champion Chad Lyle captured heat two ahead visiting and former USMTS champion Rodney Sanders while Austin Siebert moved to the front to claim the final heat over double-duty driving Kameron Grindstaff. Siebert and Lyle started the final a-main of the night on row one with Lyle charging out front, leaving Siebert and Sanders to battle for runner-up honors. Lap-after-lap Lyle pulled away on the ensuing yellow-flag restarts through a series of unfortunate caution periods. Due to time restrictions, the race was cut to 20-laps and it appeared Lyle had wrapped up an opening night victory; however, his finish did not stand as post-race inspection led to disqualification from the rundown. Ultimately, Siebert was declared the winner with Sanders capturing second. Dean Wille had a strong start to the season, advancing from eighth to third while Tim Karrick finished strong in fourth. Jimmy Dowell ran consistently up front all night to finish fifth.

Coming Up Next: Next week, drivers return for week two of the championship series for Pepsi Night at the races. On Saturday, Pit Gates open at 4:30 followed by spectator grandstands at 5. Driver pill-draw ends at 6:15 (no passing points if driver checks in late), the pit meeting takes place at 6:30, and practice ‘hot laps’ begin at 7. Racing begins at 7:30.

Adult general admission is $12, Active Military $10, Senior Citizens ages 65 to 74 years $10, Kids ages 6 to 12 years $6, Senior Citizens 75 and older free, Children 5 and under free. US Hwy 13 north of Warrensburg is now under construction. According to the Johnson County EDC,” The City of Warrensburg is beginning construction of a new roundabout at the intersection of Business Route MO-13 and Hawthorne Blvd. This is just north of Walmart, Applebee’s and Aldi’s. There will be some temporary detours from time to time.” CMS suggests using the Hwy 13 north bypass east of Warrensburg from US Hwy 50 as an alternate route if coming to CMS from the south.
