The threat of rain did not dampen the enthusiasm and exciting racing at CCMS Friday evening. Five divisions with solid fields provided the on track action. The track was smooth and wide allowing for three and four car wide racing. The 270 Micros were first on the schedule. Starting 3rd in the 8L, Luke Kroboth took the lead early followed by Bobby Sanso in his 20S. In the second heat The Wild Child, Jeff Weaver, was chased to the checkered by the #15 of Kyler Stahl . Next up was the 600 Micros. First heat win was earned by the 21J of Jared Kunkle , 2nd to Jake Hummel in his #1. Garrett Bard in the #95 took the checker in the second heat with Jeff Weaver glued to his rear bumper. Andrew Yoder followed by Joe Lusk in the first Limited Late Model heat, Jim Yoder claimed win with Mike Smith close in tow in heat two. The winged 305 Sprints saw Ryan Lynn followed by the 33 of Scott Lutz in the first heat. The #0 of Kyle Ganoe snuck by Dale Schweikart to win heat two. Chris Snyder and A Y Shilling crossed the line in the first Pro Stock heat, Tommy Dawson bested Brad Myers in the second PS heat. Feature Time: The Pill Pull saw Jeff Weaver starting on the pole. At the drop of the green, Weaver tried to pull away , but soon had Skeetz Hockenbrock in the X and the #8L Luke Korboth and the 17 of Troy Whitesel all challenging the leader. Weaver held on to take the checkered, with Korboth , Whitesel, Hockenbrock , Denny Rinehimer rounding out the top five. In the 600 Micro feature, Jeff Weaver scuurry back to the pits to climb in his 600 car. Kameron Morral in the beautiful #880 lead the first lap. Charging from fourth was Weaver . Lap two Weaver powered by to take the lead. Weaver was able to pull away and looked like he would claim the win. However, Garrett Bard in his Sparr powered Hyper machine was on the move. the last six laps saw nose to tail, hub to hub as these two battle for the lead. Two laps to go, Bard slid high coming off turn two. He found the traction he needed using the outside lane. On the last lap, Bard was able to edge by Weaver at the checkered to claim his second win of the season. Weaver, Jake Hummel, Kameron Morral, and Beamer rounded out the top 5. The limited Late Model feature saw Mike Smith keep his #57 at the point thru lap 11. With flags displayed, Dylan Yoder used the high line to power into the lead. Smith and D. Yoder raced side by side with Andrew Yoder making it three wide racing. As the ‘Five’ to go was given Jim Yoder in his S& R towing #42 joined the fun up front. Dylan was now hugging the cushion , finding just enough traction to fend off all challengers. At the flag it was Dylan Yoder, Andrew Yoder , Jim Yoder, Mike Smith, and Matt Cochran . In victory lane Dylan said he learned a lot from watching his dad , Mr Smooth, Jim Yoder. I bet Jim and Andrew will now be watching to learn a few things from the younger racing Yoder .Ken Duke in the #67 took early command in the 305 Sprint car feature, with Tylor Cochran’s #19 machine close in tow. Lap after lap side by side then nose to tail they raced. At times almost touching as they battled for first. Kyle Ganoe and Dale Schweikart kept the pressure on the race leaders. Four sometimes five cars under a blanket for first place. With one lap to go Cochran slid high in turn one . Charging down the back stretched saw the front four cars glued together. Cochran with a daring move coming off turn four was able to nip Duke at the flag for the win. In victory lane Cochran said he did not intend to go to the cushion. But with three cars wide racing, he found himself ‘ The Odd Man Out’. He said once near the outside wall, he had no choice but bury his foot on the throttle and just hope he didn’t wreck. The move proved to be the right move. Not the Odd Man Out, but the Feature Winner. Victory Lane saw his entire crew celebrating his win. Duke, Ganoe, Schweikart and the 33 of Scott Lutz rounded out the top five. Nine cars started the Pro Stock feature. Brad Myers in the #94 and Tommy Dawson in his 16 lead the way. Myers lead from lap one thru lap three. On lap four Dawson moved to the outside and took command for the remainder of the event. Following close in tow, was Myers, Chris Snyder in the #31, A Y Schilling in the #28, and Noah Jensen closing fast in his #6 to round out the top five. In Victory Lane a very happy Tommy Dawson said ‘He watched the Limited Late Models and Sprint cars passing riding the cushion. He decided to try that as well. It worked!’ Tommy is one of the very popular drivers at Clinton County Motor Speedway. Next Friday June 8th, the Mason Dixon Series for the Limited Late Models is on tap.
