6.22.19 – 411 Motor Speedway Results

SEYMOUR, Tenn. (June 22, 2019) — The Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series made its inaugural visit to 411 Motor Speedway on Saturday for running of the $3,000-to-win “Shootout @ Tennessee’s Action Track,” and hometown hero Ryan King of Seymour captured a crowd-pleasing victory.

With 23 cars signed-in for qualifying, Layne Clifton was fastest out of Group A with a lap of 13.879 seconds, followed by Chase King and Ryan King.

Cory Hedgecock was quickest in Group B and overall with a fast-time of 13.810 seconds, followed by Jordan Rodabaugh and Bobby Giffin.

The Quick 6 Dash determined starting positions for the first three rows. Hedgecock earned the pole position by winning over Clifton, Ryan King, Rodabaugh, Chase King and Giffin.

Two heat races were held with David Crabtree winning the first 10-lap event over Mike Weeks and Ruben Mayfield. Eddie King Jr. took the win over Matt Henderson and Drew Kennedy in the second 10-lapper.

At the start of the 40-lap feature it was Hedgecock who shot to the early lead ahead of Ryan King, Clifton, Rodabaugh, Crabtree and Chase King. A big crash at the end of the first lap involving seven cars running in the middle of the pack slowed the action.

On the ensuing restart Chase King bolted into third while Crabtree and Weeks moved around Clifton one lap later to grab fourth and fifth respectively. After Crabtree took third from Chase King on the third lap, Weeks moved by to take fourth one lap later.

Hedgecock moved out to a lead of a full straightaway by lap 9 when he caught the tail of the field, which allowed Ryan King to keep pace. However, a lap 14 caution would again slow the action as the third running machine of Crabtree slowed on the track with mechanical issues.

Hedgecock stormed back out to the lead when the green flag waved once again over Ryan King as Chase King passed by Weeks for the third position.

But the complexion of the feature would change entirely on lap 23 when the leading car of Hedgecock slowed with mechanical troubles to bring out another yellow flag, and ultimately end the race for the three-time Topless Outlaws Dirt Late Model Series winner in 2019.

Ryan King assumed the lead and even though Chase King and Weeks stayed right behind the leader to the end, Ryan King, who is competing full-time with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this season, would not be denied a trip to victory lane. Finishing behind Ryan King were Chase King, Weeks, Henderson and Clifton.

Completing the top 10 finishers were Jason Cardwell, Kyle Courtney, Chad Wallace, Daniel Richards and Mayfield.

Sometimes you chauffeur a fast hot rod but at end of the race you don’t have anything to show for it, and that applied to Trevor Sise of Knoxville. Sise has consistently been fast all season, leading races and running inside the top five. But unfortunately various issues have caused him to drop out of races, leaving nothing to show for just how good his race car has been. He finally put all the pieces of the puzzle together, first setting fast-time in qualifying and then by leading from start-to-finish to capture his first win.

Trevor grabbed the lead over Greg Martin, Michael Courtney, his younger brother Zach Sise, and Rusty Webb at drop of the green. While Trevor was in control out front, behind him several drivers were jockeying for real estate including Martin, Courtney, Zach, Webb, Michael Smith, Ross White, and a hard-charging Jesse Lowe (points leader) who was making his way toward the front after having to start at rear of the field following getting into the wall on his qualifying lap.

With those in pursuit racing two- and three-wide throughout the 25-lap feature battling for position, that allowed Trevor to pull out to a comfortable advantage as he recorded the Crate Late Model victory over Courtney, Ballenger, Martin and Lowe. … However, a post-race (engine and rear tires) protest filed by second place finisher Courtney means the finishing results are unofficial until Sise’s crate-engine is inspected on Monday and lab results come back on the tires.

If Clyde Stanton of Knoxville was a Major League Baseball player he would be commanding a multimillion-dollar contract, because with his slugging (winning) percentage over .500 he’s definitely knocking it out of the ballpark this season. The “Mule Hollow Missle” jumped out to the lead over Matt Tharp at start of the Sportsman Late Model feature and never looked back en route to recording his division-leading fifth victory in nine events. Tharp gave chase to Stanton throughout the 20-lap event hoping the leader would make a mistake to open the door for him to get around, but Stanton clicked off flawless laps and that left Tharp to come home in the runner-up position. Finishing third through fifth, respectively, were Brad Seagle, Adam Mitchell and Cody Courtney.

Blake Brown of Corbin, Ky., led flag-to-flag in capturing the Open Wheel Modified victory over Ricky Tinch, Joey Cotterman, Robby Reagan and Jimmy Dalton.

Lee Merritt appeared headed to yet another Classic win, but in racing it ain’t over until the checkered flag waves. Merritt led from the start until racing off the fourth turn to receive the white flag when his car suddenly slowed with apparent engine issues. That set up a “classic” finish as Quincy Arnwine of Maynardville barely held off Michael Millsap and Shaun Sise for the victory, with Luke Ellis and Chris McKinney rounding out the top five.

Jacob Sharp of Crossville outran Nathan Adams, Dustin Duncan, Kevin Sexton and Cody Rector to capture the Front Wheel Drive feature win.
