ATTICA, Ohio – Kyle Larson became the first back-to-back winner of the 35th Annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by Racing Optics Tuesday, July 11 at Attica Raceway Park. Larson led all 40 laps to take home the $15,000 top prize.

Attica Raceway Park has been very kind to the Elk Grove, California native as he has now won three Brad Doty Classics. He has six career wins at the track in just 10 A-main starts including five wins in the last six starts at Attica. It was Larson’s 30th career win with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series in just 133 feature starts (23%).

While the final stats will show Larson led all 40 laps, Wooster, Ohio’s Sheldon Haudenschild hounded Larson through lap 30. A restart with nine laps to go and a clear track saw Larson pull away for the victory in front of a standing room crowd.

“To think no one has won back-to-back in this race is unbelievable. The balance of my race car felt really good thanks to Paul, Trevor, Doug, Kevin…everybody who helps out to get us to the track and get us on track. Thanks to all you fans for coming out. It’s always a great event to come to Ohio…it’s going to be an awesome week of racing. To start out with a win and hopefully build some momentum before we hit Eldora,” said Larson beside his Finley Farms, Folkens Bros Trucking, FloRacing, JVI Group, Glenn Styres Racing backed #57.

“I was making mistakes in three and four because I’d catch traffic or start to see them and start to slow and drive easier and then I wouldn’t get my wheel spin where I needed it and get swallowed up in the cushion. I wasn’t sure where Sheldon was behind me but I figured he would be having a hard time seeing as well. I got to the back bumper of traffic and that was really tough. One and two…the cushion was really tall right in the center…taller than it typically is over there and on exit there was nothing. You couldn’t see it…they were blowing across the bottom and all the dust would end up on top of the race track. I got behind Brad (Sweet) and I figured he was going to make clean laps so I just tried to pace him and we got a caution there and thankfully we didn’t have another double-file restart,” explained Larson.

The runner-up finish was a career best for Haudenschild in the Brad Doty Classic.

“I want to win Brad Doty’s Race bad. Hats off to Ripper and Gravy and Danny…man my car was great. I kept Larson honest the whole time until that last restart. I just got too tight there on the cushion,” said Haudenschild of his NOS Energy Drink, West Tennessee Expediting, Hunt Bros. Pizza, Frozen Farm, DAC Pet Products backed machine.

Cole Macedo survived a chaotic battle for the final podium position, matching his personal best finish in the Brad Doty Classic.

“It was a dog fight the whole race. The restarts were killing me. Kyle would chose the top which was really good for him…he would get awesome starts but it made it to where Sheldon would get a decent start and Gio (Scelzi) would get an awesome start and drive across my nose and I’d be under fire from the people behind me and it took me awhile to get back to the guys ahead of me,” said Macedo of his Albaugh Your Alternative, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Tarleton & Son, Pro Powdercoating, Liquid Trucking backed #41.

Rounding out the top 10 were Donny Schatz from 14th; David Gravel who took over the point lead for the World of Outlaws; Zeb Wise, the night’s hard charger, coming from 19th, Giovanni Scelzi, James McFadden, Logan Schuchart from 21st and Shane Stewart who was in only his second race since retiring three years ago.

Attica Raceway Park will be back in action Friday, July 21 with the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group for the 410 sprints, the NAPA of Bryan AFCS presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales for the 305 sprints and the Attica Raceway Park/Oakshade Raceway Challenge Series for the UMP Late Models.
