7.21.23 Big Diamond Speedway Results

2020 Big Diamond track champion Mike Gular returned to his winning form at Big Diamond Speedway taking the big $4,000 to win Dave Kamp Memorial. Jordan Henn continued his march toward the USS Achey Crate 602 championship notching his third win of the season over a hard charging Logan Watt and Alex Schoffstall continued to add to his career leading Roadrunner win total winning Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner feature. Bryce Bashore won his third Big Creek Concrete Roadrunner feature of the year and Richie Hitzler once again dominated the Xcel 600 modified feature.

Bryan Rhoads would take the lead early on in the Quandel Concrete Modified feature and set the early race pace. With Rhoads leading the way, the action behind him was hot and heavy as Bobby Trapper Jr, Doug Smith Jr and Nick Rochinski all battled for the runner up spot. Louden Reimert went by Rochinski on lap six to take fourth and was almost past Smith for third when the first caution of the race was thrown on lap eight for Cliff Quinn who had stopped in turn four wiping out Rhoads big lead.

On the restart, Rhoads and Trapper Jr got together coming for the green flag causing Rhoads to miss his marks going into turn one and slowly spin in turn two right in front of the oncoming field. Cars piled into the leader but amazingly only Smith Jr ended up spinning and stopping as the rest of the field kept going. This moved Trapper Jr to the lead with Reimert, Craig Von Dohren, Ryan Watt and Mike Gular now the top five. The restart had Trapper Jr leading the way with Reimert in close pursuit. The No. 2A of Gular was the car on the move as he went two for one in turn three, getting by both Von Dohren and Watt to take over third as the field completed lap nine. Reimert was all over Trapper for the lead, but a problem was developing on Reimerts No. 16 as the left front tire was going flat causing him to lose the handle entering the turns. Gular took advantage of Reimert’s misfortune to go by him for second on lap 10 and now set his sights on Trapper. Reimert would lose third to Von Dohren when he went high in turn one with Watt almost sneaking by as well.

It took Gular less than one lap to sail by Trapper for the lead as he was scored the new leader on lap 12 with a hard charging Von Dohren now all over Trapper for second as Jeff Strunk joined the battle. While they battled for second, Gular was long gone. Von Dohren and Strunk both went by Trapper as he went way high in turn one with Reimert getting by as well. The battle between Von Dohren ended on lap 19 as Von Dohren suddenly slowed in turn one and pulled off the track. Strunk did his best to try and rundown his buddy Gular but there was no stopping the No. 2A tonight as streaked under the checkered flag for the big $4,000 win. Strunk, Reimert, Watt and Mike Lisowski completed the top five.

“This thing is just firing right now, Ron (Seltman) of Fast Four Shocks has this going good,” said Gular after the race. “We were searching for a little while there in June and trying a bunch of stuff. I think we narrowed it down a little bit and we are rolling good now. We were good on the bottom, I felt pretty good in (turns) one and two on the top, but it didn’t feel as good as it did on the bottom, and I figured I would make them go around us. I have to thank Terry (car owner Terry Fastnacht) for having faith in me when we were struggling, and he keeps this team rolling along with all our sponsors and my crew and the hard work is paying off. There were a couple of weeks in June where I wanted to drive it off the bridge on the way home but it ain’t ever that bad and I am just glad we got it going again.”

The 20-lap USS Achey Inc Crate 602 Sportsman feature had Xavier Sprague taking the lead at the start with Logan Watt going from fourth to second on lap one. Sprague continued to lead with Watt all over him for the lead as Kevin Olenick and Jordan Henn were going at it for the third spot. A lap five yellow bunched the field back up as Matt Martino went around in turn two. On the restart Watt tried the outside going through turn two but Sprague took his line away forcing Watt way outside allowing Henn to go by Watt for second. Sprague did a good job holding off the charges of Henn for many laps, but Henn was finally able to get past for the lead on lap 12 with Watt going by Sprague as well one lap later. Watt gave it all he could to stay with Henn but on this night, it was all Jordan Henn who crossed the finish line first to win the $1,000 payday and extend his point lead over Watt. Watt finished second with Sprague, Olenick and Danny Buccafusca the top five.

The Big Creek Concrete Crate 602 saw Bryce Bashore win his third rookie race of the season. Bashore started from the pole position and was never headed as he cruised to the win over Brennan Chapman and Alex Bartorillo.

Jim Kost would lead lap one in the Red White and Blue Autos Roadrunner feature with Alex Schoffstall and Andrew Fayash III not too far behind. Mulitple yellows would slow the action early on and kept the field bunched up. Schoffstall was finally able to clear Kost on a restart to take the lead and then hold off a late race charge from Fayash III to win his eighth feature of the season. TJ Fitzpatrick, CJ Ferguson and Jim Kost were the top five.

The Xcel 600 modifieds visited Big Diamond once again and just like the last visit it was Richie Hitzler sitting in victory lane after taking the lead away from Korey Inglin on lap 16 to get the win. Inglin finished second with Bryce Smith, Kenny Harris III and Shjon Dove the top five.
