8.17.18 Albany Saratoga Speedway Results

MALTA – No one likes a racing card that gets interrupted by rain, but Chad Edwards probably isn’t complaining.

The driver out of Gloversville started on the pole and led all 25 laps to record his first sportsman victory of the season Friday night at Albany-Saratoga Speedway.

The threat of rain forced promoter Lyle DeVore to start early, and go with a features-only format. But only three features were completed before a violent thunderstorm rolled in to cancel the rest of the program.

Edwards and Pat Jones, who started in the front row, ran side by side for three laps in the sportsman feature until Edwards finally put the Spencer Racing 37 into the lead. From there, he was on cruise control, leaving Nick Lussier and Scott Duell to battle for second. Lussier hung on to the No. 2 spot, with Duell third, Robert Bublak Jr. fourth and Jack Speshock fifth.

The DMA USAC Midgets out of Bear Ridge Speedway made their second stop of the season at the Malta track, and Will Hull dominated the feature. Despite starting last in the field, Hull was second after just four laps and then took the lead for good going down the backstretch on lap nine.

Derek O’Hearn held off Jason Goff for second.

Josh Coonradt won the 25-lap pro stock feature. Dan Older came off the front row and led the first 23 laps, but a yellow came out with two to go when the hood on Kim Duell’s car came off and blocked Duell’s vision, forcing him to stop in the second turn.

Coonradt got the jump of the restart and went on to record his fourth win of the season. Older came across the line second, with Norm Loubier third.

Albany-Saratoga Speedway will be holding “Nostalgia Night” on Friday, Aug. 24, and the racing card will include double features for modifieds.
