9.4.15 Albany Saratoga Speedway Results

Malta, NY – Brett Hearn won his tenth Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modified feature event of the season Friday night at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway. His arch rival Kenny Tremont, Jr. meanwhile won the 2015 Track Championship, his 13th at the Great Race Place.

In other action Jeremy Pitts (Sportsman), Brandon Emigh (DIRTcar Pro Stocks), Ken Conroy (Limited Sportsman), Randy Miller (Street Stocks) and Steve Ryan (Greg’s Towing & Repair Four Cylinders) were also feature winners.

Ray Hoard and Neil Stratton led the field to the green with Stratton taking the early lead over Hoard, Jesse Mueller, Matt Depew and Hector Stratton. Hoard started to show some smoke on last three and then two laps later, he slowed on the back stretch. When racing resumed Rich Scagliotta spun in turn two forcing a restart. On the restart Stratton held the lead with Mueller, Depew, Mark Kislowski and Ronnie Johnson following. Hector Stratton slowed on lap seven bringing out the yellow flag.

When the returned to green flag conditions Stratton remained the leader with Mueller, Depew, Johnson and Kislowski in pursuit. Depew took the second spot from Mueller on lap nine with Johnson following to third a lap later. Don Ronca had moved to fifth as Kislowski dropped from the top five. Johnson meanwhile was closing in on the leaders. He took second from Depew on lap 11 and quickly closed on Stratton. Ronca also moved to fourth with Matt Delorenzo fifth.

Just as Johnson was about to make the pass for the lead Stratton slowed and pulled to the infield. Johnson began to pull away while Brett Hearn moved into the top five. On lap 20 Hearn moved past Depew for second with Johnson a straightaway ahead. Elmo Reckner had moved into fifth. Peter Britten slowed on lap 24, forcing another restart.

On the restart Johnson and Hearn battled with Hearn taking the lead. Reckner tool over third on lap 27 with Tremont moving to fourth and Depew dropping back to fifth. Despite a lap 31 caution for Alex Bell, no one had anything for Hearn who cruised home for the win. Reckner finished second with Johnson third, Tremont fourth and Ronca fifth. A total of 24 Upstate GMC Dealers DIRTcar Modifieds were pit side with heat races going to Jesse Mueller, Neil Stratton and Mike Perrotte.

Jeremy Pitts won the 25 lap Sportsman feature event. Jack Swinton and Mike Ostrander made up the front row and led the field to the green with Swinton taking the early lead over Ostrander, Scott Duell, Robert Bublak and Joe Orlando. Duell quickly moved into the second position however Connor Cleveland spun in turn three, negating the pass. When racing resumed after multiple cautions, Bublak took the lead with Duell and Swinton following. Bublak’s bid for the win came to an end on lap eight as he slowed on the front stretch with mechanical issues.

This gave the lead to Duell with Pitts, Swinton, Rocky Warner and Nick Lussier rounding out the top five. Warner took third from Swinton on lap ten. Pitts and Warner raced back and forth on laps 17 and 18 as they both closed in on Duell. Pitts took the lead on lap 20 with Warner following to second. The top three battled over the last few laps but in the end Pitts picked up the win. Warner finished second with Duell third, Tim Hartman, Jr. fourth and Lussier fifth. Heat races for the 29 Sportsman were won by Swinton, Bublak and Duell.

With his 12th place finish, Derrick McGrew was crowned the 2015 Track Champion over Rocky Warner. The difference from first to second was four points.

Brandon Emigh won the Featherfoot DIRTcar Pro Stock feature event. Todd Hoffman and Dave DePaulo led the field to the green with DePaulo taking the early lead. Hoffman and Bernie Companion made contact on lap one causing a jingle in turn one. Hoffman was sent to the rear for his involvement. On the restart DePaulo held the lead with Norm Loubier all over him from second. Dan Older, Sr. moved past Loubier for second on lap five and started hounding DePaulo. DePaulo’s good run came to an end on lap seven when he made contact with the turn four wall.

On the restart Older held the lead before the race was slowed on lap eight due to a spin by Robbie Speed. Older continued to hold the lead when racing resumed with Loubier following. Byron Wescott took the second position from Loubier on lap 14 and set his sights on Older. After a spin by Wescott on lap 17 Emigh moved to second. On lap 19 Emigh took the lead from Older. In the end Emigh picked up the win over Older, Daniel Sanchez, Speed and Jeff Washburn. A total of 22 DIRTcar Pro Stocks entered the event with heat race wins going to Emigh, Loubier and Companion. Kenny Martin was crowned track champion.

Ken Conroy won the 20 lap Limited Sportsman division feature event. It was his second win of the season. Shannon Donnelly and George Dorvee led the field to the green with Donnelly taking the early lead before Jack Lehner and John Stowell tangled in turn four. On the restart Donnelly continued to lead before another pair of drivers tangled on lap four. When racing resumed Donnelly held the top spot with Pat Jones and Conroy in pursuit. Conroy took second from Jones on lap seven and closed in on Donnelly.

Using the high side Conroy got a run on lap nine but then got out of shape which allowed Jones to get back past for second. Jones and Conroy were all over Donnelly for the lead as Anthony Alger spun on the back stretch causing the caution flag to wave. On the restart Conroy moved to second before another caution waved on lap 16. Donnelly remained out front until Conroy took the lead on lap 18. In the end Conroy would pick up the win over Donnelly, Jones, Brandon Pitcher and Rob Lanfear. Heat races for the 23 Limited Sportsman were won by Jones, Lanfear and Donnelly.

Randy Miller won the Street Stock feature event, his 11th of the season. Jay Fitzgerald took early command of the 20 lap feature event with Damon Anderson and Hunter Sanchez following. Sanchez took over second by lap five and began to challenge Fitzgerald for the lead. Fitzgerald and Sanchez made contact on lap eight, which sent Sanchez around in turn two. Fitzgerald was sent to the rear for his involvement. This gave the lead to Anderson with Miller in second. On lap 11 Miller took the race lead with Josh Coonradt following to second. In the end Miller would pick up the win over Coonradt, Bill Duprey, Anderson and Frank Monroe.

Steve Ryan won the Greg’s Towing and Repair Four Cylinder feature event. Robert Garney and Brett Horlacher led the 11 car field to the green with Garney taking the early lead. Ryan took the top spot on lap three and began to pull away. Garney spun on lap seven, forcing a restart. On the restart Ryan held the lead with Ben Grant and Todd Goldstein following. In the end Ryan picked up the win over Goldstein, Grant, David Mullineaux and Mike Parodi. Parodi was the first Single Cam driver across the line.

The Albany-Saratoga Speedway returns to action Friday evening September 11th with the annual Northeast Crate Nationals event for the King of Dirt Sportsman Series. The Meltz Lumber Street Stock event and CRSA RaceSaver Sprint Car Series will also be on the card. Racing is set to begin at 7 pm with pit gates opening at 4 pm and grandstand gates opening at 5 pm.
